Smith, Gonzalez Chosen as Dustdevil Student-Athletes of the Week

LAREDO, TEXAS (April 18, 2018) – The Texas A&M International University Department of Athletics announced softball's Lindsey Smith and baseball's Ricky Gonzalez as this week's Dustdevil Student-Athletes of the Week.
 
Every Wednesday during the 2017-18 academic year, one male and one female student-athlete will be chosen for the honor. Student-athletes will be chosen by the sports information office based on factors such as athletic performance and community engagement efforts.
 
LINDSEY SMITH | JUNIOR | BULLHEAD CITY, ARIZ.
Smith drove in a team-high five runs as the Dustdevils extended their Heartland Conference win streak to seven games this past weekend. The junior went 4 for 10 in the Dustdevils' three-game sweep over St. Edwadrd's with one double and one home run for three RBIs while slugging .800. She also went 2 for 2 with three walks and a home run in the first game of Monday's doubleheader against nationally-ranked Angelo State. 
 
RICKY GONZALEZ | SENIOR | CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS 
Gonzalez drove in four runs and scored another in the Dustdevils' four-game series against Lubbock Christian on the road last week. The senior went 2 for 3 in the second game of Friday's doubleheader driving in a two runs. He also drove in a run in each of the final two games of the series. For the season, Gonzalez is hitting .239 with eight doubles and one home run for a team-high 19 RBIs.
