Dustdevils Draw With Harding In Season Opener

Texas A&M International and Harding fought to a 1-1 tie in the season opener for both teams on Thursday afternoon at the Toyota Soccer Center in Frisco, Texas.

Harding took a 1-0 lead in the 68thminute on a goal by Peter Hmung off of a corner kick. TAMIU sophomore Elias Perales evened the score 1-1 in the 81stminute when he flicked a free kick from Charlie Michel from 25 yards out into the net.

TAMIU doubled Harding up in total shots, 23-11, but HU goalkeeper Michael Wasson kept the Bison in the game by recording nine saves on 10 shots on goal. TAMIU's Carlos Herrera was solid as well, making three saves on four shots on goal.

TAMIU head coach Claudio Arias is happy with his team's effort but stresses there is room for improvement.

"The positive thing is that we didn't lose," Arias said.

"We were able to come back from the 0-1 deficit. We outshot them and should have won. We will regroup and try to get better in the areas that need improvement."

TAMIU returns to action next week with road games in the Salt Lake City, Utah. The Dustdevils will play Westminster College on Thursday and Dixie State on Saturday.
