SALT LAKE CITY - Texas A&M International (0-1-1) dropped its first decision of the 2018 campaign 2-1 to Westminster (3-0) on Thursday.
The Dustdevils had a chance to get on the board first in the 18th minute as sophomore Cem Izgec fired a shot off the cross bar. Unfortunately, the Griffins broke the seal as Danny Darrelli knocked a header in from Jake Jensen to go up 1-0 at 22:56.
Four minutes into the second half, Redshirt Freshman Johan Portales headed in the equalizer on a pass from Billy Sanchez. Portales tried to take the Dustdevils first lead of the game at 54:54 with a header from a cross from the left touchline 30 yards out. However, the shot sailed high.
Westminster's Darrelli broke the tie with his second header of the day at 58:20, in what would be the game winning goal.
Senior Carlos Herrera put forth a valiant effort in the loss with four saves.
TAMIU will be back in action on Saturday, Sept. 8 as they stay in Salt Lake City and face off against Dixie State at 2 p.m.
