TAMIU Shuts Out Oklahoma Christian 5-0

OKLAHOMA CITY - Texas A&M International (3-2-1, 2-1 HC) handled their business against Oklahoma Christian (3-4, 1-2 HC) in a 5-0 shutout on Thursday.

The Dustdevils poured on the offense as they took 22 shots, with 11 on goal, compared to OC with five shots, three on goal.

Sophomore Cem Izgec got things started early as he knocked in a shot from the right side of the box from 15 yards out almost three minutes into the match. An own goal in the 31st minute increased the lead to 2-0 as an Eagle player attempted to clear a corner kick by TAMIU.

OC got their first real chance to score at the end of the half as Matheus Mantovani sent a free kick hurdling toward the goal but senior keeper Carlos Herrera was there to intercept it to preserve his clean sheet.

The second half is when the Dustdevils really began to shine as senior Rafael Montabes got on the score sheet with an incredible half bicycle kick off a cross from junior Ruben Moller Nielsen to go up 3-0. The fireworks continued in the waining moments of the match as Elias Perales scored his third goal of the season in the 87th minute, and freshman Abraham Salazar scored his first career goal in the 88th minute to seal the 5-0 victory.

TAMIU continues the road trip on Saturday, Sept. 22 as they travel to Wichita Falls, Texas to face off against No. 1 Midwestern State.
