Dustdevils Force A 1-1 Draw With No. 1 Midwestern State

WICHITA FALLS, Texas - Texas A&M International (3-2-2, 2-1-1 HC) handed top-ranked Midwestern State (6-0-1, 3-0-1 HC) the first blemish to their record in a 1-1 draw on Saturday.

The first half was a defensive stalemate as neither team was able to get things going on offense with TAMIU only taking two shots and MSU only taking four.

The action picked up the second half as the Mustang's Kristian Martinez scored the match's first goal with a header in front of the right post off a free kick from Juan Ramirez in the 56th minute.

TAMIU's Cem Izgec scored the equalizer in the 63rd minute from 15 yards out with shot from the right post to inside of the left post. Rafael Montabes attempted to break the tie with a header in the 84th minute, but had the shot saved by Taylor Lampe.

In the two overtime periods, Billy Sanchez gave the Dustdevils a chance to take the lead as he shot a header toward the goal in the 97th minute, but had it saved. Carlos Herrera did his job keeping the Mustangs off the board two saves in overtime to preserve the draw.

TAMIU will return home on Thursday, Sept. 27 as they play host to Heartland Conference foe West Texas A&M at 7 p.m.
