LAREDO, Texas. - Texas A&M women's basketball (0-13, 0-1 HC) opened up Heartland Conference play with a 89-39 loss to Lubbock Christian (11-4,1-0 HC) on Thursday.
Ciera Walker led the Dustdevils with 12 points as well as six rebounds. Christine Ortega posted 11 points with three rebounds and a block. Janae Wells contributed seven rebounds.
TAMIU stumbled out of the gate as the Lady Chaps raced out to a 11-2 run to start the game. The Dustdevils never really recovered after that, only scoring 12 points in the first half with LCU taking a 45-12 lead into the break.
TAMIU tried to mount a comeback in the third quarter scoring 19 points, but they had already dug too deep of a hole with the Lady Chaps taking an 67-31 lead into final 10 minutes. From there, LCU ran away further with the game taking a 89-39 victory.
The Dustdevils are back in action on Thurs., January 17 as they travel to Edmond, Okla. to face off against Oklahoma Christian.
