Dustdevils Drop Decision UAFS

LAREDO, Texas - Texas A&M International men's basketball (5-12, 2-4 HC) fell to UAFS (8-11, 2-5 HC) in a 83-57 decision on Thursday.

Xabier Gomez led the Dustdevils with 24 points as well as seven rebounds, an assist and a steal. Steven Coulanges posted 16 points with eight rebounds, an assist and a steal. Damon Leach contributed 10 rebounds.

TAMIU started strong, going on a 6-0 run out of the gate. However, the Lions answered with a 9-2 run to take their first lead at 9-8. Things grew close for the remainder of the half, as neither could muster more than a two-possession lead. The final 13 minutes of the half featured eight ties and four lead changes. Eventually, UAFS came out on top, taking a 40-35 lead into the intermission.

In the second half, the Dustdevils could not find an answer for the Lions' offense, as well as going cold themselves on offense. UAFS took its first double-digit lead of the game at 48-37 early in the period. They would go on to push the advantage to 20 points for the first time at 72-52 with 4:03 left. The Lions eventually took the victory 83-57.

TAMIU will look to bounce back as the homestand continues on Saturday, Jan. 26 as they play host to Rogers State (14-6, 3-3 HC) at 3 p.m.
