TAMIU women's soccer collides with Oklahoma Christian in Lone Star Conference battle

LAREDO, Texas – Texas A&M International University women's soccer (2-5-0, 1-2-1 LSC) faced a 2-1 Lone Star Conference setback at home against the Oklahoma Christian Eagles (1-9-0, 1-4-0 LSC) on Thursday evening.

The Dustdevils broke the scoring ice in the sixth minute of play as Vivian Martinez beat Eagle goalkeeper Gabby Goddard. 

In the eighth minute, Dustdevil netminder, Ashley Barrientos made her first save of the match on a shot by Carson Hazel. 

Emily Brackett fired a shot that was sailed over the net with 44:52 showing on the game clock to send a 1-0 match into intermission. 

In the 61st minute, the Eagles netted their first goal of the match when Carson Hazel finished a feed from Mary Olmos to knot the game at one apiece. 

In the 73rd minute, Barrientos stopped a shot by Marcela Dantas to keep the match tied at one. 

TAMIU's Vivan Martinez had an opportunity to score a goal as she shot in the bottom right corner rejected by Goddard with 87:00 showing on the game clock.

Oklahoma Christian's Brianna Concienne found Jordan Friedenbloom for the game-winning goal to beat the buzzer and settled the 2-1 decision.     
 
Barrientos made a total of eight saves in defeat for the Dustdevils while Goddard stopped a trio of shots for the Eagles.

The Eagles held the advantage in shots (20-12) and shots on goal (10-4) and corner kicks (6-3).

The Dustdevils will host Lone Star Conference foe, Midwestern State (1-8-1, 0-5-0 LSC) on Saturday, Oct. 12 at 1 p.m.
