LAREDO, Texas – Texas A&M International University women's soccer (2-6-1, 1-3-1 LSC) dropped a 3-0 Lone Star Conference home decision against the Midwestern State Mustangs (2-8-1, 1-5-0 LSC) on Saturday afternoon.
The first shot of the match was fired by Mustang forward Avery Lewis and found the back of the net with 18:11 showing on the game clock to give Midwestern State a 1-0 edge.
Dustdevil forward Maddison Schofield took the first shot for the Dustdevils but sailed over the crossbar in the 37th minute of action.Â
In the 43rd minute, Mustang Sara Machado finished a feed from Emma Baley that got by Dustdevil goalkeeper Ashley Barrientos to extend their lead to a pair of goals and send a 2-0 match into the break.
Schofield took the lone shot on goal of the match for the Dustdevils in the 46th minute and was saved by Mustang goalkeeper, Aubrey Pettett.
In the 49th minute, TAMIU defender Susanna Abrahamsson tried to put the Dustdevils on the board but the ball hit the crossbar.Â
In the 63rd minute, Machado scored her second goal of the match and extended MSU's lead to a trio of goals (3-0).Â
Samantha Ruiz took the final shot of the match but went high to cap off the 3-0 decision.Â
Elena Rivera protected the net for the first 28:31 of the match while Barrientos made a total of four saves in defeat for the Dustdevils while Pettett's one save secured the Mustangs' shutout.
The Mustangs held the advantage in shots (9-4) and shots on goal (7-1) and corner kicks (3-2).
The Dustdevils will start a two-game road trip against UT Permian Basin (0-9-0, 0-6-0 LSC) on Thursday, Oct. 17 at 5 p.m.
