LAREDO, Texas -Â Texas A&M International volleyball (2-14, 0-6 LSC) fell to UAFS (15-5, 7-1 LSC) in a 3-0 decision (20-25, 6-25, 20-25) on Friday.
Sophomore Mackenzie Catalina paced the Dustdevils with nine kills in addition to a dig and an ace. Senior Hannah Semon logged 12 digs with a kill and an ace. Sophomore Maison Kosse contributed 15 assists with eight digs.Â
The Lady Lions jumped out to an early 4-2 lead in the first set, but TAMIU rallied to pull with 5-4. UAFS answered with a 8-2 run to push out to 13-6 advantage. The Dustdevils didn't lay down though, as they responded with a 9-2 run of their own to tie things at 17-17. The Lady Lions again responded by closing out the set on a 8-3 run to take the frame 25-20.
The second set was all UAFS as they opened on an 11-3 run. They eventually went up 15-4, and finished the set with nine-straight points for the 25-6 decision.
In the third set, the Lady Lions started with a 5-2 lead early, but TAMIU would fight back to tie things at 7-7. UAFS counterpunched with a 12-4 run to take a 19-11 advantage. The Dustdevils would rally one final time to trim the lead to 19-15. The Lady Lions would eventually hold them off for the win with a 25-20 decision.
TAMIU will continue the homestand on Saturday as they host Cameron at 1 p.m.
