LAREDO, Texas – Texas A&M International University women's soccer (2-5-0, 1-2-1 LSC) fell at home by a score of 3-2 in a Lone Star Conference showdown against the Eastern New Mexico Greyhounds (5-6-1, 2-6-0 LSC) on Thursday evening.
In the 27th minute, Greyhound Victoria Nunez fired the first shot of the match but TAMIU goalie, Elena Rivera was prepared for it as she rejected the attempt.   Â
In the 39th minute, Dustdevil forward Maddison Schofield was fouled in the box and capitalized on her first-career penalty kick that got past Greyhound goalkeeper, Whitney Dockweiler. The goal sent the 1-0 match into intermission.
In the second stanza, ENMU battled back in the 60th minute as Hayden Zuniga finished a feed from Carly Kowalick that got past Rivera to knot the match at one apiece.Â
TAMIU midfielder Gracielle Martinez broke the tie as she booted a free kick that got by Greyhound goalkeeper, Kristen Lane to give the Dustdevils a one-goal advantage (2-1).Â
ENMU's Desiree Morgas scored on a penalty kick with 14 seconds remaining in regulation to send the 2-2 match into overtime. Â
In the opening overtime period, Martinez took the lone shot but Lane made the save and keep the match tied at two.
In the 103rd minute, Greyhound Julia Tucker scored the golden goal to settle the 3-2 final.Â
Rivera made a total of four saves in defeat for the Dustdevils while Lane stopped six shots to close out the match for the Greyhounds.
The Dustdevils held the advantage in shots (14-13) and shots on goal (9-7). TAMIU and ENMU both took five corner kicks.
The Dustdevils will host Lone Star Conference foe, West Texas A&M (5-6-0, 4-3-0 LSC) on Saturday, Oct. 26 at 1 p.m. .
