LAREDO, Texas – Texas A&M International University women's soccer (2-9-2, 1-6-2 LSC) closed out its two-game Lone Star Conference homestand on Saturday afternoon with a 4-1 setback to the West Texas A&M Lady Buffs (7-6-0, 6-3-0 LSC).
The Lady Buffs fired the first shot of the match as Hannah Kelley-Lusk's shot was rejected by Dustdevil goalkeeper, Elena Rivera in the ninth minute.
In the 12th minute, the Lady Buffs broke the scoring ice when Marlene van Morik finished a feed from Kelley-Lusk to give them the early advantage.
Dustdevil forward, Maddison Schofield responded with the equalizer on a pass from Samantha Ruiz in the 15th minute. Schofield's team-high sixth goal of the season got past Lady Buff goalie, Daniela Estrada to knot the match at one apiece.
After Rivera stopped an attempt by van Mourik, Khaline Jacob cleaned up the rebound for the Lady Buffs to give them a one-goal edge (2-1) with 17:25 showing on the game clock.
The Lady Buffs tried to extend their lead but Rivera stopped Shanelle Arjoon's shot to send the 2-1 match into intermission.
In the second half, WT would ultimately pull away with a 4-1 victory that was sealed on Jacob's second goal of the match in the 73rd minute.
Rivera made a total of six saves in defeat for the Dustdevils while Estrada stopped a trio of shots to close out the match for the Lady Buffs.
West Texas A&M led the way in shots (18-8), shots on goal (10-5) and corner kicks (5-3).
The Dustdevils will take on UT Tyler (3-10-0, 1-8-0 LSC) in a Lone Star Conference road tilt on Thursday, Oct. 31 at 5 p.m. .
