TAMIU closes out road slate at Texas A&M-Commerce

COMMERCE, Texas – Texas A&M International University women's soccer (2-11-2, 1-8-2 LSC) closed out its road schedule with a 1-0 Lone Star Conference overtime setback on the road against the Texas A&M-Commerce Lions (9-6-1, 6-5-0 LSC) on Saturday afternoon.

TAMIU midfielder Samantha Ruiz fired the first shot for the Dustdevils in the 11th minute but sailed wide left of the net.

Dustdevil goalkeeper Ashley Barrientos made the first save of the match in the 13th minute when Kara Blasingame took a shot to the bottom left side of the net and was rejected.

The Lions then took the next six shots, including a trio of shots on goal, but Barrientos was up to the challenge and refused to surrender a goal in the opening half sent a scoreless match into intermission.

In the second stanza, Dustdevil forward Maddison Schofield attempted a shot in the 73rd minute that went above the crossbar and over the head of Lion goalie Jen Peters.

Barrientos came up with a huge save with only four seconds left in regulation on a shot by Leslie Campuzano to send the 0-0 match into overtime. This is the fourth time this season that TAMIU has sent a match into overtime.

In the 96th minute, Campuzano was fouled in the box and would ultimately convert on a penalty kick to cap off the 1-0 decision.

Barrientos stopped seven shots for the Dustdevils.

The Lions held the advantage in shots (19-2), shots on goal (8-0) and corner kicks (10-0).

The Dustdevils return home to host Dallas Baptist University (13-0-2, 10-0-1 LSC) in a Lone Star Conference matchup on Thursday, Nov. 7 at 7 p.m.  .
