TAMIU collides with No. 9 DBU in Lone Star Conference battle

LAREDO, Texas – Texas A&M International University women's soccer (2-12-2, 1-9-2 LSC) dropped a 1-0 Lone Star Conference home decision to the No. 9 DBU Patriots (14-0-2, 11-0-1 LSC) on Thursday evening. 

The Patriots fired the first shot of the match when Delaney Schmidt hit the right post in the eighth minute.

Dustdevil goalkeeper Ashley Barrientos, stopped a pair of shots by Schmidt and Kaci Parks, respectively, to continue the scoreless match with 10:30 showing on the game clock.

In the 37th minute, TAMIU midfielder Samantha Ruiz tested Patriot goalie, Hope Koym but Koym made the save.
 
In the 41st minute, Schmidt found Melissa Jones to break the scoring ice for the Patriots. The goal would ultimately send a 1-0 match into the break. 

At the 45:46 mark, TAMIU forward Maddison Schofield registered her 39th shot of the season. The attempt moved her up to eighth in school history in shots in a season.

In the 83rd minute, DBU's Jenna Patterson fired the final shot of the match that sailed high to cap off the 1-0 final. 

Barrientos made a trio of saves in defeat while Koym stopped one shot to secure the shutout for the Patriots.

DBU held the advantage in shots (10-4), shots on goal (4-1) and corner kicks (4-0).
 
The Dustdevils will play their season finale at home and will take on Texas Woman's (13-4-0, 9-3-0 LSC) in a LSC matchup on Saturday, Nov. 9 at 1 p.m.
