SAN ANGELO, Texas - Texas A&M International University softball (3-5) took down Adams State University (0-5) but fell to Angelo State University (6-1) in the first day of the Angelo State University George & Ola McCorkle Challenge.

Game 1: Texas A&M International 11, Adams State 1 (5 Inn.)

The Dustdevils started the George & Ola McCorkle Challenge strong as they tallied nine runs in the opening frame off of Grizzlies starter Jade Garbiso (L, 0-4: 3 IP, 11 H, 10 R, 9 ER, 4 BB, K). TAMIU recorded five singles, a trio of doubles, including a three RBI double into right center field by Alyssa Contreras (2-for-2, 3 RBI, R, BB). They also added a walk and an Angel Jimenez (1-for-3, HR, 2 RBI, BB, R) two-run blast that cleared the left center field fence all before the Grizzlies could record their first out.

In the second inning, TAMIU extended its lead to double-digits (10-0) as Maya Paul (3-for-4, 2 RBI, R) hit an RBI single that plated home Melanie Gamboa (1-for-3, 2 R).

In the home half of the fourth, Dustdevils starter Melanie Lint (W, 1-1: 5 IP, 4 H, 1 ER, 2 BB) retired all three Grizzlies on ground outs en route to a complete game.

Maddison Schofield (2-for-2, 3 RBI, 2 R, BB, SB) led off the top of the fifth inning, with a single and later crossed the plate on a ball that was smacked to center field by Heather Ruiz (1-for-3, RBI, R, BB) that put the Dustdevils up 11-0.

In the bottom of the fifth inning, the Grizzlies scored their lone run of the game on a single by Rebecca Wood (2-for-3, RBI) to settle the 11-1 run-rule victory for the Dustdevils.

Game 2: Angelo State 6, Texas A&M International 2

In the second inning, the Dustdevils broke the scoring ice on a sacrifice fly that was hit to the right fielder by Denise Longoria off of Rambelles starter, Makayla Corbin (W, 2-0: 7 IP, 7 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 4 K) to plate home Shelby Edwards.

In the home half of the second frame, Dustdevils starter Jenika Lombrana (L, 1-2: 5.2 IP, 6 H, 6 R, 5 ER, 6 BB, 4 K) walked Courtney Barnhill (1-for-3, RBI, R, BB) while the bases were loaded to knot the game at one.

Morgan Chavarria regained the lead for TAMIU on an RBI single that scored Erin Mosley (1-for-2, R, BB) in the top of the fifth inning (2-1).

In the bottom of the fifth inning, Angelo State quickly countered by scoring a trio of runs off of Lombrana. Mykayla Stroud (1-for-1, 2 RBI, 2 R, 2 BB) smacked an RBI single to left field and would later score on an RBI double by Hatty Shope to give the Rambelles a 4-2 edge.

The Rambelles extended their lead in the sixth inning as Miranda Martinez hit Stroud with a pitch while the bases were juiced. The following hitter, Jade Strother reached on an error by shortstop Heather Ruiz (3-for-3) that would score another run to settle the 6-2 win for Angelo State.
