OKLAHOMA CITY -Â Texas A&M International University softball (12-15, 6-5 Heartland Conference) dropped a Heartland Conference doubleheader against Oklahoma Christian University (20-5, 4-2 Heartland Conference) on Friday evening.
Game 1: Oklahoma Christian 3, Texas A&M International 1
In the home half of the second inning, the Eagles broke the scoring ice with a double by Kaylie Upton that plated home Hunter Strickland (3-for-3, R) and Daelyn Denny that gave OC a 2-0 lead.
In the top of the third frame, the Dustdevils got on the board when Maddison Schofield reached on a fielder's choice off of Oklahoma Christian starter, Madison Hagood (W, 9-2: 7 IP, 2 H, ER, 8 K, 3 BB) that brought in Gabrielle Mitchell to cut the deficit to one (2-1).
After that inning, Hagood was stellar in the circle and struck out five hitters in the final four innings of play.
In the bottom of the fifth inning, Bridget White touched home while Kayla Eichler grounded out off of Dustdevil starter Jenika Lombrana (L, 5-7: 6 IP, 6 H, 3 ER, K, 2 BB) to settle the 3-1 victory for Oklahoma Christian.
Game 2: Oklahoma Christian 6, Texas A&M International 3
The Dustdevils were looking for revenge early in the second game of the twin bill as they scored a pair of runs off of Oklahoma Christian starter, Kali Crandall (ND, 3.2 IP, 4 H, 3 ER, 2 K, 3 BB). The second batter of the game, Lindsey Smith (2-for-4, RBI, R) smacked a solo home run down the left field line to give TAMIU a 1-0 edge. Later in the inning, Briana Arredondo (2-for-3, 2 RBI) hit a single to left center field that scored Schofield for the 2-0 lead.
The Eagles quickly countered off of Dustdevils starter Sara Caterson (L, 5-5: 6 IP, 8 H, 6 R, 4 ER, 2 K, 4 BB) as they scored a trio of runs that featured a two-RBI triple to left field by Eichler (2-for-3, 2 RBI, R) that plated home Strickland and White. The next hitter, Bailey Strecker broke the tie with a single to right field that scored Eichler to give OC a 3-2 edge after one inning.
In the third inning, the Dustdevils tied the game up at three apiece on a second Arredondo RBI single that scored Schofield.
In the top of the fourth inning, Kaylie Upton (W, 3-1: 3.1 IP, H, 4 K) entered the game in relief of Crandall and only surrendered one hit for the Eagles.
Oklahoma Christian put up a three-run inning in the home half of the sixth that featured a trio of RBI singles by Denny, Payton Sabolski and Upton (2-for-4, RBI), respectively, to secure the 6-3 home win for the Eagles.
The Dustdevils will complete their three-game Heartland Conference series with Oklahoma Christian University (20-5, 4-2 Heartland Conference) on Saturday, March 16 at 1 p.m.
