LAREDO, Texas -Â Texas A&M International University softball (13-17, 7-7 Heartland Conference) split a Heartland Conference doubleheader against Rogers State University (21-10, 8-6 Heartland Conference) on Tuesday afternoon.
Game 1: Rogers State 5, Texas A&M International 2 (9 Inn.)
Through the first three innings of play, Dustdevils starter Jenika Lombrana (L, 5-8: 8.2 IP, 6 H, 6 R, 5 ER, 5 K, 3 BB) and Andrea Morales (W, 15-5: 9 IP, 4 H, 2 R, ER, 12 K) were locked in a pitchers' duel. In the second frame, both teams were retired in order.
In the home half of the fourth inning, the Dustdevils broke the scoring ice as Maddison Schofield smacked a double to left center field that brought home Morgan Chavarria and Maya Paul that gave TAMIU a 2-0 edge.
In the top of the sixth inning, the Hillcats countered with back-to-back solo home runs by Danelle Day (2-for-4, RBI, R, BB) and Allie McFetridge that knotted the game up at two apiece. The home runs would ultimately send the game into extra innings.
In the top of the ninth, Rylee DeLozier hit a two-run blast down the left field line and was soon followed up by a Tailee Reding solo home run that settled the Hillcats' 5-2 victory on the road. Â

Game 2: Texas A&M International 4, Rogers State 0
Sara Caterson led the way for the Dustdevils and pitched a three-hit, complete game shutout to earn her sixth win of the season. On the day, she struck out a season-high seven Hillcats en route to the victory.
At the plate, TAMIU put a run on the scoreboard when
Melanie Gamboa hit a single to center field off of Hillcats starter, Edie Fairchild (L, 0-1: 2.1 IP, 4 H, 4 R, 2 ER, 2 K, 2 BB) that plated home
Briana Cruz for the 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning.
In the next inning, the Dustdevils scored a trio of runs on a three-run home run down the left field line by
Shelby Edwards that scored Schofield and
Lindsey Smith (2-for-3, R) that gave them a four-run lead.
In the top of the last inning, Abigail Taylor was selected to pinch hit for the Hillcats with two outs. Taylor flew out to the left fielder, Smith, to secure the 4-0 victory. Â
The Dustdevils continue their homestand against St. Mary's University (17-14, 7-5 Heartland Conference) on Friday, March 22 at 2 p.m.
