TAMIU women's soccer hosts St. Mary’s in non-conference showdown

LAREDO, Texas – Texas A&M International University women's soccer (1-1-0) faced a 1-0 non-conference setback at home against the St. Mary's Rattlers (1-2-0) on Wednesday evening. 
 
The Rattlers netted the lone goal of the match in the fifth minute when Alexia Maldonado booted home a feed from Miranda Narvaez that got by Dustdevil netminder, Elena Rivera

In the 21st minute, TAMIU had multiple chances as Maddison Schofield and Nayeli Betancourt both fired shots but were blocked by the Rattler defense. 

In the 38th minute, Schofield attempted a shot that hit the right post in an attempt to get the equalizer.  

Maldonado attempted another shot in the 82nd minute but Rivera made a big save to keep the Dustdevils alive. 

The Dustdevils were ultimately unable to break the scoring ice as the Rattlers picked up the close win.

St. Mary's held the advantage in shots (13-6), shots on goal (5-1) and corner kicks (6-0). 

Rivera finished with four saves for TAMIU while Cameron Koerner finished the match with one save that sealed the shutout for St. Mary's.

The Dustdevils will travel to Dallas, Texas to take on Ouachita Baptist University in a non-conference battle on Saturday, Sept. 14 at 1 p.m.
