SAN ANTONIO, Texas – Texas A&M International University women's soccer (1-3-0) faced a 3-1 non-conference, neutral-site, setback against the Northwestern Oklahoma State Rangers (3-3-0) on Saturday afternoon at Sigma Beta Chi Field in San Antonio, Texas.
NWOSU broke the scoring ice in the 15th minute of action as Yazmin Gomez finished a feed from Brittany Cirnigliaro that beat Dustdevil goalkeeper Elena Rivera.
TAMIU's Samantha Ruiz found Vivian Martinez for the equalizer with 35:16 showing on the game clock. The goal would ultimately be the only shot to get by Ranger netminder Reyna Gonzalez.
The Rangers quickly responded with a goal that came just 1:32 after the Dustdevils' goal as Makayla Barrientos found the back of the net to give NWOSU a 2-1 edge heading into intermission.
In the opening half, TAMIU put together multiple scoring chances including a pair of corner kicks while registering four shots.
In the second half NWOSU put the game away in the 89th minute when Carlie Massingale scored on a pass from Rachel Bailey to secure the 3-1 victory for the Rangers.
The Rangers held the advantage in shots (8-6) and shots on goal (6-5) while TAMIU held the advantage in corner kicks (4-2).
The Dustdevils will travel to Austin, Texas to take on St. Edward's University in a Lone Star Conference matchup on Thursday, Sept. 26 at 4:30 p.m.
