AUSTIN, Texas – Texas A&M International University women's soccer (1-4-0, 0-1-0 Lone Star Conference) dropped a 6-0 Lone Star Conference road decision against the St. Edward's Hilltoppers (2-4-0, 1-0-0 Lone Star Conference) on Thursday evening.
The Hilltoppers attacked early as their offense erupted for five first-half goals. St. Edward's broke the scoring ice in the seventh minute as Elianna Chavez fired a shot past Dustdevil goalkeeper Elena Rivera.
In the 42nd minute, forward Madison McElwee finished a feed from Julia Spielmann to send a 5-0 match into intermission.
The Hilltoppers scored their final goal of the match in the 63rd minute when Annie Halls capitalized on a penalty kick that beat Ashley Barrientos.
TAMIU recorded its first shot in the 74th minute of play when Nayeli Betancourt had her shot stopped by Hilltopper netminder, Evelyn Tiplady.
Dustdevil midfielder Gracielle Martinez was awarded a penalty kick but her attempt was saved by Tiplady with 76:21 showing on the game clock.
Izabella Correa took the final shot on goal for the Dustdevils but Tiplady made the save to settle the victory for St. Edward's.
In the first half, Rivera made five saves for the Dustdevils while Barrientos played the second half and registered a save. Sweeney played the first 45 minutes while Tiplady made a trio of stops for the Hilltoppers.
St. Edward's held the advantage in shots (19-4), shots on goal (12-3) and corner kicks (11-0).
The Dustdevils will remain on the road and will travel to San Angelo, Texas to take on Angelo State University in a Lone Star Conference battle on Saturday, Sept. 28 at 1 p.m.
