Dustdevils close out road trip at No. 21 A&M-Commerce

COMMERCE, Texas - Texas A&M International volleyball (2-7) closed out the season opening road trip with a 3-0 loss (13-25, 21-25, 12-25) to No. 21 Texas A&M-Commerce (7-3) on Saturday.

Senior Annie Deininger led the Dustdevils with six kills as well as two blocks, an ace and an assist. Senior Hannah Semon posted eight digs. Sophomore Maison Kosse added 16 assists, four digs, three kills and two blocks.

The match started tight as both teams traded points. TAMIU held an early lead at 4-3, but it would evaporate as the Lions ripped off a 6-1 run to take a 9-5 advantage. They managed to hold the Dustdevils at bay for most of the set. A&M-Commerce went on a 9-2 run to close out the set and take a 25-13 decision.

Once again, TAMIU was able to grab an early lead at 6-3 to start the second set. They managed to hold off the lead for most of the set, until A&M-Commerce fought back to tie things at 19-19. From there, the Lions went on a 5-0 run to take the lead 24-19. They eventually claimed the frame with a 25-21 decision.

In the third set, the Dustdevils opened with a lead to start the set at 6-5. Unfortunately, A&M-Commerce came roaring back to 14-7 lead after a 9-1 run. They sealed the win by closing out the frame with a 7-1 run, taking a 25-12 decision.

TAMIU will begin the Lone Star Conference slate as they return to Laredo for the home opener against DBU on Sept. 27 at 6 p.m.
