LAREDO, Texas -Â Texas A&M International volleyball (2-9, 0-2 LSC) dropped at 3-0 decision (20-25, 19-25, 16-25) to No. 10 Tarleton (8-4, 3-1 LSC) to close out the opening homestand.
Sophomore Mackenzie Catalina paced the Dustdevils with 11 kills as well as eight digs, an assist and a block. Senior Hannah Semon posted 17 digs with two assists and two aces. Sophomore Maison Kosse contributed 24 assists with five digs, two aces and a kill.
The first set was tight early with both teams trading points, including five lead changes and eight ties. TAMIU managed to break away with a 4-0 run to take a 12-9 lead. However, the Texans immediately punched back to retie things at 12-12. The Dustdevils retook and held the advantage for the next several points, until the Texans went on a 7-1 run to retake the lead 23-18. They eventually took the frame with a 25-20 decision.Â
TAMIU took an early 5-3 lead to start the second set. TSU found their footing and raced out to a 9-5 lead thanks to a 6-0 run. The Dustdevils battled back to briefly retake the lead at 15-14. The Texans countered with a 6-1 run to push back out to 20-16. They closed out the frame on a 5-2 run to take the 25-19 decision.Â
TSU came out on fire after the break with a 6-2 lead to open the third set. They managed to run out to a 15-6 lead at its height. TAMIU refused to go down and fought to cut the lead to 18-14 on a 6-1 run. Unfortunately, the Texans closed out the set on a 7-2 run to take the match with a 25-16 decision.
The Dustdevils will go back on the road as they travel to Kingsville, Texas on Thurs., Oct. 3 to face off against Texas A&M-Kingsville.
