LAREDO, Texas – Texas A&M International University women's soccer claimed a victory in its home opener by a score of 2-1 over the UT Permian Basin Falcons on Sunday afternoon. With the win, the Dustdevils have now beaten UT Permian Basin in the opener in back-to-back seasons. TAMIU also improves to 6-2-1 against the Falcons in their last nine matchups dating back to 2012.

The Dustdevils wasted no time as Araceli Martinez finished a pass by Nicole Cohen in just the second minute of play.

In the 10th minute, Falcons' Kalia Beckwith was given a red card giving the Dustdevils an 11 on 10 advantage for the duration of the game.

Although the early goal was the lone goal of the first half, TAMIU had multiple chances as they fired off 10 shots.

In the second half, the Falcons knotted the game at one apiece as Kessie Stocker put a ball past Dustdevil goalkeeper Elena Rivera in the 48th minute.

In the 65th minute of play, Dustdevil midfielder Gracielle Martinez found forward Maddison Schofield to put the game-winning goal by Falcon goalkeeper Marlise Bond. The goal sealed the 2-1 win for the Dustdevils.

TAMIU held the advantage in shots (16-6), shots on goal (12-6) and corner kicks (5-4). The battle for possession was even throughout the match as each team held possession for 50% of the match.

Rivera made four saves for TAMIU while Bond finished the match with 10 saves in defeat for the Falcons.

The Dustdevils will host their second consecutive Lone Star Conference opponent, St. Mary's, in non-conference action on Wednesday, Sept. 11 at 7 p.m.
