TAMIU Falls To St. Mary’s On The Road

SAN ANTONIO - Texas A&M International men's basketball (2-14, 0-10 LSC) fell to St. Mary's (9-7, 5-5 LSC) in a 72-48 decision on Thursday.

Sophomore Tom Higgins led the Dustdevils and finished a rebound shy of a double-double with 12 points and nine rebounds, as well as two assists and a block. Senior Caleb Highley logged 11 points with five rebounds and two blocks. Juniors Matija Novkovic and Calvin Fugett Jr. both contributed 10 points, with Novkovic adding five rebounds and Fugett Jr. adding an assist and a steal.

The first half was tightly contested early with five lead changes and three ties. The Rattlers began to break away with a 15-2 run to take a 27-15 lead with just under seven minutes left in the period. TAMIU battled back to trim the lead to 27-21, but wouldn't get any closer in the half. St. Mary's pushed back out to take a 31-21 advantage into the break.

After the intermission, the Dustdevils managed to trim the deficit back to six points at 35-29 early in the second half. However, the Rattlers strung together several point runs to put the game out of reach. They took their first 20-point lead at 66-46 with 1:39 left. They took their largest lead of the game at 72-46, and eventually took the victory 72-48.

TAMIU will be back in action on Saturday, Jan. 18 as they travel to Austin, Texas for a Lone Star Conference matchup against No. 6 St. Edward's.
