AUSTIN, Texas - Texas A&M International men's basketball (2-15, 0-11 LSC) fell to No. 6 St. Edward's (16-1, 10-1 LSC) in a 94-68 decision on Saturday.
Junior Calvin Fugett Jr. lead the Dustdevils with a season-high 17 points as well as three rebounds, two assists and two steals. Sophomore Tom Higgins logged 15 points, seven rebounds and two steals. Junior Matija Novkovic contributed nine points with a rebound and a steal.
TAMIU started hot on 5-0 run to start. However, the Hilltoppers quickly answered with force, going on a 20-3 run of their own for a 20-8 lead at 13:57. They took their largest lead of the half at 28-11 just two minutes later. The Dustdevils worked the rest of the period trying to trim the deficit. They were able to cut the lead to 32-22 with 6:20 left, but that would be as close as they would get. SEU eventually took a 51-36 lead into the intermission.
The Hilltoppers kept the momentum rolling after the break, opening the second half on a 14-5 run to take a 63-41 advantage just four minutes into the period. Things didn't get any better for TAMIU, as SEU took their largest lead of the game at 81-51 with 6:44 left. The Dustdevils tried to battle down the stretch, but were only to pull within 82-60 at best. The Hilltoppers eventually took the victory 94-68.
TAMIU will be back in action on Thursday, Jan. 23 as they return home to face off against Eastern New Mexico.
