Dustdevils Fall To Oklahoma Christian In Weekend Finale

LAREDO, Texas – Oklahoma Christian (1-1, 1-1 LSC) never trailed and shot 11-for-13 in the first quarter and used the 31-9 opening frame to defeat Texas A&M International (1-1, 1-1 LSC) 85-67 in the series finale.

After shooting 29.8% in the 57-51 opening game loss, Oklahoma Christian was lights out in game two from the field, hitting 58.8% from the field and 55.6% from three.

In the 31-9 first quarter, the Eagles were handed huge contributions by junior's Kendra Levings and Kendall Blackburn as both scored 10 points in the opening quarter. Levings ended the game with 13 points while Blackburn had 12 points.

The Dustdevils were able to cut the deficit to 14 at the half (42-28), outscoring the Eagles 19-11 in the second quarter. Senior Nicole Heyn scored five points early in the quarter while senior Patrycja Jaworska scored all seven points in the Dustdevils 7-0 run to end the half.

The second half saw both teams fighting back and forth, unfortunately for the Dustdevils every time the game got within a single possession of single digits, the Eagles would respond or go on a small run.

Senior Maddison Ingraham was the catalyst for the Eagles in the second half, scoring all 23 of her game-high in the final 20 minutes to match her career high she set as a freshman against the Dustdevils.

Sophomore Amaya Buchanan came off the bench for the short-handed Eagles who only traveled nin players and recorded her career-high scoring 13 points.

For the Dustdevils, the second half saw Heyn score the remaining 12 of her team-high 17 points and graduate senior Jazmine Covington also scored 12 points in the half.

Jaworska was the third Dustdevil to finish in double figures with 15 points while junior Josselin Geer contribute eight points and sophomore Bre DeLon and senior Eva Langton added six points each.

On the afternoon, the Dustdevils shot 37.7% from the floor (20-53) and 32.3% from behind the arc (10-31). TAMIU was also on the opposite end of the rebounding category, be out-rebound 27-20, but positively the Dustdevils won the turnover battle committing 21 to the Eagles 24.
