LAREDO, Texas – Texas A&M International men's basketball (3-18, 1-14 LSC) fell to Midwestern State (4-16, 4-10 LSC) in a 99-58 decision.
Senior Caleb Highley led the Dustdevils with 20 points with four rebounds. Junior Calvin Fugett Jr. posted 10 points with three rebounds. Freshman Jorge Meijas-Sanchez contributed nine points with two rebounds and a steal.
The opening moments of the game were tightly contested with both teams trading the lead. The Mustangs eventually broke away on a 16-3 run to take a 19-8 lead. They continued to roll and took a 43-21 lead into the break.
The second half was all MSU, as they carried their momentum into the period. They took their first 30-point lead four and half minutes into the half at 59-30. From there, TAMIU tried to hold the deficit in check, and managed to keep the lead from growing too much more. However, with two minutes left, the Mustangs took their largest lead of the game at 97-55. They eventually took the victory with a 99-58 decision.
The Dustdevils will be back in action on Thursday, Feb. 6 as they return home to face off against St. Edward's.
