LAREDO, Texas – Texas A&M International baseball (2-5, 2-5 LSC) dropped the series opener 8-0 to Oklahoma Christian (1-6, 1-6 LSC) on Friday.
The Eagles got things started early as they put up two runs in the first inning. One run scored on a ground out to third, while the other run scored on a passed ball.
TAMIU's J.J. Sanchez settled down after the first inning and pitched two scoreless innings in the second and third. OC's Gabe Rodery didn't allow a hit until the third inning, when Anthony Handel singled up the middle.
The Eagles added one more run in the fourth inning as a run scored on a throwing error by the first baseman to give them a 3-0 lead. They added another run in the sixth to push out to 4-0 on a sacrifice fly to left.
Both pitching staffs worked two scoreless frames until the ninth inning when the Eagles tacked on four more runs for the 8-0 victory. One run scored on an RBI single to left. The three other runs came in on a bases-clearing triple to right.
OC's Rodery (1-2) earned the win. TAMIU's Sanchez took the loss (0-2).
The series will continue with two seven innings games on Saturday starting at 1 p.m.
