Dustdevils Split Doubleheader With Eagles

LAREDO, Texas - Texas A&M International baseball (3-6, 3-6 LSC) split the doubleheader with Oklahoma Christian (2-7, 2-7 LSC) on Saturday.

GAME 1 - TAMIU 9, OC 2

The Dustdevils got to work in the bottom of the first, as they put up two runs for an early lead. Paris Johnson drove in both Andrew Holsey and Luis Flores with a two RBI double to left.

TAMIU added three more runs for a 5-0 lead in the second inning. Anthony Handel scored on a throwing error by the third baseman. Flores scored on an error by the shortstop. Holsey scored on wild pitch. 

The Dustdevils pushed out to an 8-0 lead with another three runs in the fourth inning. Flores scored Phillip Sanchez with an RBI single to left. Handel scored on a wild pitch. Flores later came home as Holsey got caught in a run down between first and second.

TAMIU added one final run in the fifth as Flores drove in Sanchez with an RBI single to go up 9-0.

The Eagles finally got on the board with two runs in the top of the seventh to cut the lead to 9-2. An RBI double to left center scored one run, while the other run scored on an RBI single to short.

Abanny Garcia (2-0) earned the win in the decision. OC's Hayden Boyd (0-1) suffered the loss.

GAME 2 - OC 7, TAMIU 4

The Dustdevils once again got on the board first in the second game as Jerry Villareal brought home Handel on an RBI single through the left side of the infield for an early 1-0 lead.

OC exploded to take a 4-1 lead in the third inning. Two runs scored on a two RBI double to right center. One run scored on a throwing error by the second baseman. The final run of the frame scored on an RBI single to center.

Both pitching staffs were able to work scoreless innings in the fourth and fifth.

The Eagles added a run in the sixth off a RBI single up the middle to push out to a 5-1 lead. The Dustdevils would get two runs back in the bottom half of the inning to trim the deficit to 5-3. A Hunter Trinidad RBI double to left scored Sergio Esqueda. Sanchez would then bring home Trinidad with an RBI single to center.

OC responded in the top of the seventh with two runs to go back up 7-3 on a two RBI single. TAMIU would get one final run in the bottom half to cut the lead to 7-4.

The Eagles' Brent McDonald (1-1) earned the win in the decision. Justin Rumley (0-1) took the loss.

The Dustdevils will look to split the series in the final game of the series on Sunday at 1 p.m.
