LAREDO, Texas -Â Texas A&M International men's basketball (3-24, 1-20 LSC) fell 76-59 to Tarleton (17-10, 11-8 LSC) on Thursday.
Freshman Jorge Meijas-Sanchez led the Dustdevils with a career-high 21 points with two rebounds and two assists. Senior Caleb Highley logged nine points, with four rebounds and an assist. Freshman Jociah Cruzzi contributed eight points, six rebounds, an assist, a block and a steal.
TAMIU started slow as the Texans opened the game on a 11-0 run. TSU pushed out to their largest lead of the half at 19-7 with 11 minutes left in the half. TAMIU tried chipping away at the deficit and were able to pull within 12 points at 28-16. However, the Texans didn't seem to be able to be stopped and took a 45-26 lead into the intermission.
In the second half, the Dustdevils flipped a switch and refused to go down without a fight. With 15 minutes left in the game, TAMIU began an incredible 21-5 run to cut the lead to just 54-51 with just under nine minutes remaining. TSU responded with a 13-2 run and pushed back out to a 69-55 lead. However, the Dustdevils continued to fight and held the Texans in check for the remainder of the game. TSU eventually took the decision 76-59.
TAMIU will be back in action on Saturday, Feb. 29 as they host DBU in the regular season finale on Senior Day.
