PORTALES, N.M. -Â Texas A&M International baseball (2-3, 2-3 LSC) claimed the series in a 12-9 victory over Eastern New Mexico (0-5, 0-5 LSC) on Saturday.
The Dustdevils got things started in the first inning with Luis Flores scoring Anthony Handel on a RBI single. Flores later scored on a balk to put TAMIU up 2-0. The Greyhounds answered in the bottom half with a two-run homer to left to tie things at 2-2.
TAMIU tacked on three more runs in the top of the second. Andrew Holsey drove in Handel and Flores with a single to center. Holsey later scored on Jerry Villareal RBI single to center to push the lead to 5-2. Once again, ENMU answered in the bottom half with two more runs, trimming the lead to 5-4. A triple to right center scored one run, with the other run coming across on a balk.
The Dustdevils got one run back in the third, as Adrian Castillo scored on a Handel groundout to second to go up 6-4.
The Greyhounds took their only lead of the ballgame in the fourth inning at 8-6, scoring four runs in the frame. Two runs came in on a two RBI single up the middle. The go-ahead run scored on single to right, with the final run scoring on a wild pitch.
TAMIU bounced back and retook the lead 9-8 in the sixth inning. A two-run blast from Paris Johnson that scored Villareal tied things at 8-8. Castillo broke the tie with a single through the left side of the infield that scored Phillip Sanchez.
The Dustdevils added three more runs in the seventh inning for the 12-9 victory. Villareal scored on a Sanchez single to left. Sanchez came home on a Castillo double to left, and Castillo scored on a Hunter Trinidad double to left.
Freddy Barrera earned his first win of the season in the victory, with Justin Rumley earning his first save. ENMU's Camden Matthews (0-1) suffered the loss.
TAMIU will look for the sweep in the series finale on Sunday.
