PORTALES, N.M. -Â Texas A&M International baseball (2-4, 2-4 LSC) were unable to complete the series sweep as they fell 9-6 to Eastern New Mexico (1-5, 1-5 LSC) on Sunday.
The Dustdevils got things started in the first inning as Luis Flores scored on a Jerry Villareal groundout to first. Andrew Holsey later scored on a Paris Johnson single thought the left side of the infield to give TAMIU an early 2-0 lead.
The Greyhounds answered in the bottom half of the inning as they broke the game open with a seven-run inning. Two runs scored on two singles, a run scored on a passed ball, a bases loaded walk scored a run and a run scored on sacrifice fly. The final run of the inning scored on an inside the park home run to take a 7-2 run.
TAMIU went to work trimming the lead in the fourth inning. Sergio Esqueda scored on an Andrew Holsey sacrifice fly. Anthony Handel crossed home on an RBI single from Villareal. Phillip Sanchez brought home Flores to cut the deficit to 5-7
ENMU tacked on two more runs in the bottom half of the inning to push the lead to 9-5. The first run scored on an RBI single. The other run scored on a sacrifice fly to right.
The Dustdevils would get one run back in the sixth inning. Holsey scored on a Villareal single to center to trim the lead to 9-6.Â
The comeback would come up short as the offense would go quiet in the final three innings.
ENMU's Josh Lewis (1-1) earned the win, with Lane Saunders (1) earning the save. Joseph Garza-Delapena (0-2) took the loss. Â
