SAN ANTONIO - Texas A&M International softball (5-15, 0-4 LSC) fell in a doubleheader to St. Mary's (10-13, 3-1 LSC) on Sunday.
GAME 1 - StMU 5, TAMIU 3
In first game of the doubleheader, the Rattlers got on the board first with a run off a sacrifice fly to right for the early 1-0 lead.
The Dustdevils responded in top of third, tying the game 1-1. Briana Arredondo brought home Victoria Maldonado with an RBI double to center field.
St. Mary's broke the game open in the bottom of the fourth, scoring four runs for a 5-1 lead. A two-run home run to left center scored the first two runs, with the other two runs coming in on a bases clearing, two RBI triple to right.
TAMIU cut the deficit to 5-3 in the top of the sixth, but couldn't complete the comeback. Alyssa Contreras scored Christina Garcia with an RBI double down the left field line. Jordan Meza came in thanks to a Morgan Chavarria RBI single to center.
The Rattlers' Staci Johns (5-5) earned the win, with Nikkolette Hernandez (1) earning the save. The Dustdevils' Paige Sasser (2-4) took the loss.
GAME 2 - StMU 5, TAMIU 0
St. Mary's got things started in the second game of the doubleheader, scoring two runs in the first inning for a 2-0 lead. The first scored on an RBI single up the middle, with the other run scoring on an RBI single through the left side of the infield.
The Rattlers added two runs in the fourth to push out to a 4-0 lead. Both runs came in on a two-run homer to left. They added one final run in the fifth off an RBI double down the left field line for the 5-0 win.
In total, the Dustdevils scattered five hits over the seven innings, and left nine runners stranded on the bases.
St. Mary's Alex McLennan (6-2) earned the win. TAMIU's Melanie Lint (2-7) took the loss.
The Dustdevils will be back in action on Friday, March 13 as they open up their home schedule with Lone Star Conference doubleheader against Lubbock Christian.
