Harry Signs Five For 2020 Season

LAREDO, Texas - Texas A&M International University Head Volleyball Coach Brittany Harry announced the signings of five student-athletes for the 2020 season on Tuesday.

Danielle Armendariz

A native of El Paso, Texas, Armendariz comes to TAMIU after a successful high school career. She finished with 1,123 career kills. She also played club volleyball for El Paso SOL.

She received multiple awards during her time in high school, including First Team All-District 2-5A in both 2018 and 2019, as well as being named District 2-5A Outstanding Hitter.

McKenna Flagler

A native of Jacksonville, Ill., Flagler brings a long list of accomplishments with her to Laredo. She finished her high school career with 1,552 assists, and sits in eighth place in school history in service points scored with 646.

She was the Co-Captain for her high school team in both 2018 and 2019, and was named team MVP both years. Additionally, Flagler was named First Team All-Conference in 2018 and 2019, and Honorable Mention All-Conference in 2017. She was also named the MVP of her club team in 2015, 2016, 2017 and 2018.

In July 2019, Flagler participated in the USA National A2 Training Program in Rock Hill, S.C.

Her mother, Cheryl Kelly, played volleyball for Rollins College, and her father, Andy Flagler, played baseball for Auburn University and was drafted by the Boston Red Sox in the 1988 First Year Player Draft.

Ariana Guerra

A native of Laredo, Texas, Guerra was successful for four years at United South High School, where she helped lead her team to their first playoff appearance in 17 years in 2018. Her teams also made Bi-District Appearances in both 2018 and 2019. 

Guerra was named First Team All-District 29-6A in 2017, 2018 and 2019. She was also named First Team All-City in 2017 and 2018, and Second Team All-City in 2016.

She was a four-time Academic All-District selection. 

Guerra was also active on multiple club team in the Laredo area, including playing for LTX Select for the last year under TAMIU assistant coach Gilbert Vela.

Yaretzi Ortiz

Another native Laredoan, Ortiz was successful at Lyndon B. Johnson High School for four years. She was named the 2019 All-District MVP, 2018 First Team All-District, 2017 and 2016 Honorable Mention All-District.

Ortiz was also named 2019 All-City MVP, 2018 Hitter of the Year, 2018 First Team All-City and 2017 Honorable Mention All-City.

She graduated in the top seven percent of her class.

Daniela Sandoval

The third Laredo product to sign with TAMIU, Sandoval had a successful high school career. In 29 games during her senior season, she posted 386 digs, 38 aces and 62 assists. 

Sandoval was a two-time Second Team All-District selection and a two-time First Team All-City selection. She was a three-time All-Academic selection.
