LAREDO, Texas – Texas A&M International (6-1, 3-1 LSC) shot a blistering 65% from the field and 63% from three in the first half which included a 37-point second quarter in route to a 97-67 victory of the Kentucky State Thorobreds (0-2, 0-0 SIAC) to complete the series sweep.

Everything was clicking for the Dustdevils in the first half that saw three players in double figures.

Sophomore
Clara Fernandez, who set a career-high 17 points vs Texas A&M-Kingsville on Jan. 4, cruised to another career day scoring a game-high 23 points, 16 of which came in the first half, to go along with six rebounds, four assists and five steals.

The Dustdevils led 22-15 after one quarter, but exploded for 37 points in the second while limiting the Thorobreds to 14 points to take a 59-29 into the break.

In the second quarter, TAMIU shot 16-for-21 (76%) from the floor and 60% from three. The Dustdevils limited Kentucky State to 30% shooting in the first half and 27% from three.

Kentucky State managed to cut the deficit to 19 early in the fourth quarter, but the Dustdevils used a 13-3 run to push the lead back to 29 points midway through the quarter.

The Dustdevils again shot 50% in the second half and 36% from three.

For the game, TAMIU shot 58% from the floor and 47% from three. The Dustdevils 58% from the field was its best field goal percentage in a game since it shot 58% against Huston-Tillotson on Dec. 1, 2017. The Dustdevils also limited the Thorobreds to 35% from the field in the game and 19% from three.

For the Thorobreds, junior A'Zia Reed led the way with 15 points, while fellow junior Andrea Wallace scored 11 points along with nine rebounds

Three more Dustdevils joined Fernandez in double figures, including senior's
Patrycja Jaworska (22 points, six assists, four steals),
Nicole Heyn (18 points, four rebounds, three steals) and
Eva Langton (16 points and eight rebounds).

Freshman
Silvia Blanco also had a great game all-around, scoring nine points, five rebounds, five assists and five steals.

The Dustdevils return to action Thursday, at home, to begin a Lone Star Conference series against St. Edward's. Tip-off is set for 4 p.m.
