Dustdevils Win Streak Continues After 69-59 Win Over St. Edward's

AUSTIN, Texas – Senior's Eva Langton and Nicole Heyn both provided double-doubles and two other Dustdevils scored in double figures as Texas A&M International (8-1, 5-1 LSC) solidified the best start in program history with a 69-59 victory over St.Edward's (2-4, 2-4 LSC).
 
The first quarter was a back and forth battle as the teams fought to a 12-11 score in favor of the Dustdevils.
 
In the second quarter, TAMIU jumped out to a 30-19 lead behind an 18-8 run, but the Hilltoppers cut the deficit to 31-28 at the half behind a 9-1 run of their own.
 
The first half saw the Dustdevils shoot 48% from the floor, but just 2-for-9 from three. Defensively, TAMIU held the Hilltoppers to 34% and 0-for-8 from three.
 
The Hilltoppers eventually tied the game 40-40 in the third quarter, but the Dustdevils countered with a 20-7 run from four minutes remaining in the third to 5:23 remaining in the fourth to open their biggest lead of the game.
 
St. Edward's again cut the deficit to seven points (63-56) with 1:31 remaining in the fourth, but the Dustdevils connected on four free-throws and a layup to close the game.
 
For the game, TAMIU shot 46% from the floor, but just 3-for-18 from three and 14-for-24 at the free throw line. The Dustdevils limited the Hilltoppers to 39% from the field and were excellent guarding the three-point arc, holding St. Edward's to 1-for-13 from three.
 
St. Edward's was led by senior D'aviyon Magazine who scored a team high 13 points and collected eight rebounds. Freshman McCall Hampton was the only other Hilltopper to score in double figures with 10 points and senior Jazmine Jackson scored nine points with a team high nine rebounds.
 
For the Dustdevils, Langton led the way with 20 points and 11 rebounds and Heyn scored 12 points and added 10 rebounds in their double-doubles. Sophomore Clara Fernandez upped her double figure scoring streak to five games with 18 points, three rebounds and four steals, while senior Patrycja Jaworska scored 16 points, three rebounds and four assists.
 
With a seven-game winning streak at hand, the Dustdevils are scheduled to return to action on Friday, Jan.22 on the road against nationally ranked and undefeated Lubbock Christian in Lubbock, Texas. The non-division, conference matchup is slated to tip at 5:30 p.m.
