LUBBOCK, Texas – Texas A&M International (8-2, 5-2 LSC) fell behind early and fought until the very end, but #2 Lubbock Christian (7-0, 7-0 LSC) extended its home winning streak to 82 games defeating the Dustdevils 71-61.

The first quarter was all Chaps as they outscored the Dustdevils 20-7 behind six points from senior Ashton Duncan and four points from fellow senior Allie Schulte.

In the second quarter, TAMIU battled back and forth to a 12-10 score, but ultimately trailed at the break 32-17.

The first half saw the Dustdevils shoot 27% from the floor and 3-for-8 from three. Defensively, LCU shot just 37% from the field and 3-for-14 from three.

The Chaps opened the lead to 25 points after three quarters, outscoring the Dustdevils 27-17 in the frame and did so behind 62% shooting and 6-for-7 from three.

The fourth quarter belonged to the Dustdevils, outscoring the Chaps 27-12 in the final 10 minutes, shooting 82% from the floor and 6-for-7 from three, but the large deficit was too much to overcome.

For the game, TAMIU shot 51% from the floor and 56% from three, as well as 9-for-12 from the free throw line. On the other hand, the Chaps shot 43% from the floor and 36% from three. The difference was their victory in the turnover department, forcing 23 Dustdevil turnovers while committing just 11 of their own.

LCU had four players in double figures, with Duncan leading the way with a team high 15 points on 5-for-10 shooting from behind the arc. Junior Channing Cunyus scored 11 points, while seniors Emma Middleton and Madelyn Turner each scored 10.

For the Dustdevils, sophomore
Bre DeLon made an immediate impact in her return, scoring a team high 14 points, 12 of which came in the second half. Senior
Nicole Heyn was the only other Dustdevil to hit double figures, scoring 11 points and collecting nine rebounds. Freshman
Hannah Dawson came off the bench and contributed nine points on 3-for-4 shooting from three.

After its first loss in over a month, TAMIU looks to get back in the win column as it rematches LCU tomorrow afternoon at 3:30 p.m.
