Dustdevils Lose Heartbreaker to Oklahoma Christian in Overtime Thriller

LAREDO, Texas – Texas A&M International men's basketball (1-9, 1-6 LSC) fell 79-70 to Oklahoma Christian (2-8, 2-8 LSC) in a hard-fought overtime thriller on Tuesday.

Freshman Anthony Scott led the Dustdevils with a season-high 22 points to go along with seven assists, five steals and three rebounds. Senior Matija Novkovic posted 17 points with six rebounds, an assist and a steal. Junior Tre Thomas put up seven points with five rebounds. Sophomore Tyrese Davis contributed six points, nine rebounds, an assist and a steal.

TAMIU started hot as they opened the game on a 7-2 run. However, the Eagles quickly answered with their own 8-0 run to take a 10-7 advantage. Things grew close for the rest of the half with five ties. The Dustdevils regained the lead at 19-18 with six minutes left, and held on to take a 33-27 margin into the intermission.

In the second half, OC fought back to tie things at 41 all with just under 13 minutes left in the game. Things once again grew tight as neither team was able to gather more than a two-possession lead. With six minutes left, both teams traded the lead back and forth seven times and tied four times to force overtime with a 68-68 stalemate.

The Eagles took over in the overtime period as they raced out on a 10-1 run to take a 79-69 lead with under two minutes left, and eventually took the 79-70 victory.

TAMIU will be back in action on Friday, Jan. 22 as they travel to Lubbock, Texas for a two-game series against No. 16 Lubbock Christian. Tip-off is slated from 7:30 p.m.
