Dustdevils Drop Conference Matchup To Texas Woman's

LAREDO, Texas – Texas A&M International women's soccer squared off against Texas Woman's in a conference clash at home, but in the end, it was the Pioneers (6-1-2, 3-1-0 LSC) taking the victory of the Dustdevils (1-8-0, 0-4-0 LSC) 2-0.

After a quiet first 25 minutes of the contest, TAMIU had an opportunity to take the lead, but senior Jessica Simental's penalty kick opportunity was stifled by Texas Woman's goalkeeper Alexandra Jacinto.

The Pioneers broke the scoreless tie to make the score 1-0 at the 33:39 mark of the first half.

In the second half, Texas Woman's held most of the control, scoring at the 77:27 mark to make it 2-0, while outshooting the Dustdevils 11-2 in the final 45 minutes.

TAMIU was outshot in the contest 14-9, despite holding a 7-3 edge in the category in the first half.

Simental, senior Valeria Macias and junior Vivian Martinez led the Dustdevils with two shot attempts each. Simental (two shots on goal) and Macias (one shot on goal), combined for the three total on net TAMIU had in the game.

The Dustdevils stay home and prepare for a Wednesday evening matchup against St. Edward's on Oct. 6. Kickoff is scheduled for 5 p.m.
