Dustdevils Celebrate Senior Day with 3-1 Victory

LAREDO, Texas – Texas A&M International women's soccer celebrated four seniors and did so in victorious fashion, upending UT Permian Basin 3-1 on Senior Day.
 
Prior to the matchup, TAMIU recognized the careers of seniors Jessica Simental, Valeria Macias, Nicole Cohen and Clarissa Valdez.
 
The Dustdevils (3-11-1, 2-7-1 LSC) wasted no time taking the advantage, scoring just 1:13 into the contest. Senior Tritch Ann Grant netted her fourth goal of the season thank to the assist from sophomore Krysan St. Louis.
 
The 1-0 score held serve up to halftime, but was relinquished just 4:51 into the second half, when the Falcons (2-14-0, 1-10-0 LSC) knotted the game 1-1 at 49:51.
 
At 62:32, TAMIU responded with the game-winning goal to make the score 2-1. Junior Vivian Martinez scored her second goal of the year on an assist by Macias and St. Louis.
 
Just 4:36 later, at 67:08, the Dustdevils added an Tritch Ann Grant scored her second goal of the game on an assist by Cohen to give TAMIU some room to breathe.
 
The game in terms of the numbers looked to be evenly matched. The Dustdevils outshot the Falcons 11-9 and also put more shots on goal, 8-6. Corner kicks were in favor of UT Permian Basin, 5-4.
 
Grant, Cohen and St. Louis all tied TAMIU with a game high two shots, with Grant and St. Louis putting both on the cage, while Cohen was successful once.
 
Sophomore goalkeeper Fabiana Solano splayed extremely well in net, stopping five of the six shots she faced.
 
After a successful senior day, the Dustdevils turn the page to a matchup against DBU. Kickoff from Dallas, Texas is slated for 1 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 30.
