LAREDO, Texas – Texas A&M International men's soccer celebrated eight seniors and did so in shutout fashion, defeating UT Tyler (6-7-1, 2-4 LSC), 2-0 in the final home game of the year.
The contest was at a stalemate the entire first half as neither team were able to put a goal on the board.
After 45 minutes, both teams had opportunities, but the goalkeepers shined. In the first half, both teams took five shots and both had two on goals, with each keeper making a goal saving stop.
In the second half, the Dustdevils (6-9-1, 3-4 LSC) broke through at 52:26 when seniors
Johan Portales and
Lucas Vaz setup sophomore
Gabriel Gacovicaj for a beautiful header that beat the Patriots keeper to take a 1-0 lead.
Senior's
Kristian Colaci followed up Gacovicaj's goal just under 15 minutes later, at 67:09, netting his 12th of the season to make it 2-0 in favor of TAMIU.
In the end, the Dustdevils outshot UT Tyler 14-7 and 6-3 in shots on goal. Corner kicks also favored TAMIU, 7-3.
TAMIU concludes its 2021 home schedule and no prepares to finish the season on the road against St. Mary's on Friday, Nov. 6 at 7 p.m. in San Antonio.
