LAREDO, Texas – Texas A&M International men's soccer opened Lone Star Conference play in thrilling fashion, blanking DBU for the second time in a week, 3-0 on its home turf.
Â
The Dustdevils (4-5-1, 1-0-0 LSC) needed some time to feel things out, but at 35:54, senior Kritian Colaci scored his ninth goal of the season to make it 1-0.
Â
TAMIU held that lead until the 61:48 mark of the second half, when senior
Johan Portales scored his second of the season on an assist by Colaci.
Â
Less than five minutes later, Colaci was taken down in the DBU box and netted his 10th goal of the season on a penalty kick to make the score 3-0, which stood for the remaining 33:54 of the contest.
Â
The Dustdevils had the benefit of playing a man up for the majority of the contest after a Patriots red card at 28:38.
Â
TAMIU outshot DBU 5-3 in the contest and while the Dustdevils put all five shots on net, the Patriots managed just one.
Â
Colaci led the team with four shots, while Portales had the only other opportunity and capitalized on it.
Â
TAMIU now prepares for its first conference road test, facing UT Permian Basin in Odessa, Texas. The teams played to a 3-3 draw in Laredo on Sept. 22.
Â
Kickoff on Wednesday, Oct. 13 is scheduled for 7 p.m.
