OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. – Texas A&M International volleyball concluded its 2021 season in Oklahoma City squaring off against Oklahoma Christian. In the end it was the Eagles (11-17, 7-10 LSC) coming out victorious over the Dustdevils (4-20, 4-13 LSC) 3-1.

The first set was a thriller, with TAMIU taking a 1-0 lead in a 27-25 set win.

The score was even early on up to the point of it being 9-9. Oklahoma Christian looked to take the edge with a 5-0 run to open a 14-9 lead, but the Dustdevils countered to take eight of the next 10 points to regain the lead at 17-16.

The teams traded 3-0 runs and then the Eagles tied the set at 20-20. OC would take a 23-21 and then a 24-22 lead, but TAMIU would score five of the last six points to take the set.

Sets two and three were a different story as the Eagles settled in with victories of 25-18 and 25-15 to take a 2-1 lead in the match.

The fourth and final set was much like set one, with OC taking the victory in a 25-23 win.

The Dustdevils jumped ahead to a 17-8 lead in the set and looked to be cruising to setting up a deciding fifth set. Unfortunately for TAMIU, the Eagles went on a 13-3 run to take the lead 21-20. The Dustdevils would regain the lead late at 23-22, but OC rattled off the final three points to seal the match.

Senior
Mackenzie Catalina led the way in the kill category yet again for TAMIU, finishing the afternoon with 16 kills and 14 digs defensively.

Graduate transfer
Ilina Spasova also hit double figures in kills with 13.

Maison Kosse punctuated her career with 43 more assists to put her career mark at 2,128. She also earned a double-double with 11 digs.

Defensively, sophomore
Daniela Sandoval led the team with 21 digs.

The season comes to a close for the Dustdevils and they now move forward to prepare themselves for the 2022 campaign. Despite the tough season record wise, it was a fantastic season for individuals as numerous records were broken throughout the year, including Catalina breaking the all-time kill record both in a career and in a match, as well as Kosse and her mark as only the third Dustdevil to amass 2,000 career kills.
