TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Texas A&M International women's basketball bounced back after its first loss of the season to defeat its third NCAA Division I opponent in the last two years, toppling Florida A&M 68-55.

The Dustdevils (6-1, 0-0 LSC) stormed ahead early and did so by outscoring the Rattlers (0-7, 0-0 SWAC) 23-16 in the first quarter.

TAMIU the grew its lead to double digits in the second quarter and held a 38-27 lead going into the locker room.

The third quarter saw the eleven-point lead hold as both team could only muster 14 points each in a defensive third quarter.

In the fourth, the Dustdevils ever so slightly got the better of FAMU, outscoring the Rattlers 16-14 to give TAMIU the eventual 68-55 win.

The Dustdevils concluded the night shooting 42.6% from the floor (26-for-61), 35.3% from three (6-for-17) and 10-for-16 from the free throw line.

FAMU shot just 31.1% from the field (19-for-61), 7-for-29 from deep (24.1%) and 10-for-13 from the charity stripe.

Despite being outrebounded 40-39 in the contest, TAMIU won the turnover battle 25-20 and won the battle in the paint 34-10.

TAMIU had three players in double figures with freshman
Evelyn Quiroz leading the team in scoring with 19 points (8-for-13 shooting), four rebounds and three assists.

Sophomore
Clara Fernandez was excellent, posting the first double-double for a Dustdevil in 2021-22, scoring 17 points with 10 rebounds and four steals.

Kayla Presley scored 15 points with three assists, senior
Eva Langton scored three points with six rebounds and graduate transfer
Lena Yoonis scored six points to go with five rebounds and four steals.

After another big win against a Division I program, TAMIU now looks to its upcoming non-conference matchup against St. Edward's on Thursday. Opening tip from Austin, Texas is slated for 5:30 p.m.
