LAREDO, Texas – Texas A&M International (0-1, 0-1 LSC) dropped its season opener to UT Permian Basin (1-0, 1-0 LSC) 2-1 on a last second goal by the Falcons.
The Dustdevils opened the scoring at 23:33 when sophomore
Magnus Poulsen netted a goal on assists by junior
Kodai Kobayashi and freshman
Gabriel Gacovicaj.
The Falcons tied the game just 13 minutes later when Joel Hope scored to tie the game 1-1.
In the second half, both teams kept to their physical styles and took the game down to the final horn.
With no time remaining, Ollie Grundy's shot crossed the back of the net and it gave UT Permian Basin the 2-1 victory.
The two teams were evenly matched the entire game with the Falcons leading in shots (9-8) and shots on goal (7-5). TAMIU led the game in corner kicks, 4-3.
Senior Nils Van Der Landen stopped five shots for the Dustdevils and Poulsen led the way with three shots offensively.
TAMIU returns to the pitch on March 2 when they travel to Canyon, Texas to face West Texas A&M. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
