Dustdevils Shutout Buffs On Road 1-0

CANYON, Texas – Texas A&M International men's soccer (1-1, 1-1 LSC) scored late in the first half on a penalty kick and shutout West Texas A&M (1-1, 1-1 LSC) 1-0 on the road.

It was a back and forth throughout the first half with only on strong chance for either side.

With 33 minutes remaining in the half, senior Kristian Colaci had an excellent chance to take an early lead, but was stonewalled by Buffs goalkeeper Alexander Vencel.

Time elapsed with neither team claiming another quality chance, but with 9:30 remaining, the Dustdevils drew a penalty kick and junior Johan Portales buried it for the lone goal of the match.

West Texas A&M was the aggressor in the second half, outshooting the Dustdevils 7-0 over the final 45 minutes, but were unable to get one past freshman keeper Naxto Faus.

For the game, the Buffs led the shot category 10-6, shots on goal 5-4 and corner kicks 8-2.

Faus was perfect in net, saving all four shots he needed to in the shutout.

The Dustdevils return home to take the pitch on March 9 against Oklahoma Christian. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.
