Dustdevils Fall To Angelo State 92-60 In Return To Action

LAREDO, Texas –Texas A&M International (1-12, 1-12 LSC) returned to the floor for the first time in a month and fell to Angelo State (7-9, 7-9 LSC) 92-60 to open the final series of the season.
The Rams jumped in front early, but the Dustdevils countered to take a 7-6 lead. Unfortunately, that was the only lead for the Dustdevils as Angelo State would regain control and never looked back.
The Rams took a 39-18 lead into the locker room, doing so on 52% shooting in the first half, including 45% from three. On the other hand, TAMIU was limited to just22% in the first half and 1-for-9 from behind the arc.
The Dustdevils fell to a deficit of 23 in the second half, before cutting the lead to 12 with 13:58 remaining. However, a 13-2 Rams run cooled TAMIU as the lead grew back to 23 and eventually as much as 37 late in the half.
In the second half, the Rams shot 67% from the floor and 78% (7-for-9) from three. For the game, Angelo State shot 59% from the field and 60% from distance.
The Dustdevils shot better in the second half, going 41% from the field and 2-for-6 from three. Altogether, the Dustdevils connected on 32% of their shots and went 3-for-15 from three in the game.
Senior Matija Novkovic led the Dustdevils with 17 points, while freshman Anthony Scott was the only other Dustdevil in double figures, scoring 12 points while adding five steals and four assists.
Angelo State had 11 players score on the night, including four in double figures. Devaughn Thomas led the Rams with 20 points and 9 rebounds, while Kevon Godwin, Paul Williams and Sam Moore all scored 11 points.
The Dustdevils conclude their regular season tomorrow afternoon in a rematch with Angelo State. Tip is slated for 3:30 p.m.
