Dustdevils Overcome 13 Point Deficit, Upend Angelo State 75-72 On Senior Day

LAREDO, Texas – Texas A&M International (11-4, 9-4 LSC) fell behind by as many as 13 points to Angelo State (1-13, 1-13 LSC) in the third quarter, but fought back to win 75-72 in thrilling fashion on senior day.
 
Celebrating the careers of Patrycja Jaworska, Nicole Heyn, Josselin Geer and Eva Langton, the Dustdevils capped of the highest overall win percentage in a single season in program history.
 
The Dustdevils led by as many as nine points in the opening frame, before a Rambelle run cut the lead to four at the end of the quarter.
 
Angelo State performed lights out offensively in the second quarter, scoring 31 points on 63% shooting to take a 43-31 lead into the half.
 
Despite the deficit, the Dustdevils shot 48% from the floor in the first half, but only connected on 3-of-14 three pointers.  
 
On the opposite end, Angelo State shot 52% in the first half, as well as hitting 4-of-13 from three.
 
Out of halftime, the Dustdevils trailed by as many as 13 points early in the third quarter and the last double-digit deficit lasted until 24 seconds remaining in the third.
 
Trailing 60-50 with 2 minutes remaining in the third, from that point, TAMIU outscored the Rambelles 25-12 over the remaining 12 minutes of play.
 
In the fourth quarter, the Dustdevils were finally able to even the game with a three pointer by sophomore Clara Fernandez to tie the game 68-68 and then took the lead on the next possession on a shot by freshman Ally Winnen.
 
Angelo State tied the game one last time, but TAMIU held on to seal the victory.
 
For the game, the Dustdevils shot 46% from the floor, but just 28% from three. The Rambelles shot 43% from the field and 27% from three, but TAMIU limited them to just 30% shooting in the second half.
 
The Dustdevils were led by Winnen who scored a game high 28 points on 12-for-15 shooting to go with seven rebounds. Heyn added a third consecutive double-double, scoring 25 points and 10 rebounds. For the second time this season, Heyn tied the program record for three pointers in a game netting seven. Jaworska was the third Dustdevil in double figures, scoring 12 points.
 
Angelo State was led by Sawyer Lloyd who scored 18 points and added 9 rebounds. Sadie Misner, Madeline Stephens and Lana Marov all entered double figures as well.
 
The Dustdevils regular season concludes and now they prepare for the Lone Star Conference Tournament. First Round action begins on Tuesday at a site and time yet to be determined.
