Dustdevils Even Series with 11-10 Win Over Chaps

LAREDO, Texas – Texas A&M International baseball (6-11, 6-11 LSC) evened the series on Saturday with a 11-10 win over Lubbock Christian (5-9, 4-7 LSC).

The game looked to be a pitcher's duel at the start as both starters only allowed one hit apiece through the first two innings.

However, the Chaps broke the seal in the third inning, putting up three runs for an early 3-0 lead. All three runs came in on a three-run blast over the left field wall.

The Dustdevils got a run back in the bottom half of the inning to trim the lead to 3-1. Ariben Gutierrez brought home Brock Hargens with an RBI double down the left field line.

LCU responded in the fourth with a single run off a sacrifice fly to left to push back out to 4-1.

TAMIU answered in the bottom half and cut the lead to 4-3 with two runs. Luis Flores plated Ronnie Bailey and Jerry Villareal with a two RBI double down the right field line.

The Chaps offense came alive in the fifth as they scored four runs to go up 8-3. The first run came in on a sacrifice fly to left with another run coming in on an RBI single up the middle. The final two runs came home on a two RBI double down the right field line.

Once again, the Dustdevils answered with two runs to cut the deficit to 8-5. Villareal scored Sergio Esqueda and Gutierrez with a two RBI single up the middle.

LCU added an insurance run in the seventh on a sacrifice fly to right to extend their advantage to 9-5.

TAMIU's offense exploded in the bottom of the seventh to tie things up at 9-9 with four runs in the frame. Villareal plated Phillip Sanchez with an RBI single up the middle. Antonio Buentello scored Ronnie Bailey and Villareal with a two RBI single through the left side of the infield. Daniel Quiroz brought home Andrew Holsey for the tying run with an RBI single to left.

The Chaps broke the stalemate with a run in the eight. The run came home on an RBI single up the middle.

The Dustdevils took their first lead in the bottom half at 11-10 with two runs in the bottom of the eighth. Sanchez scored on a wild pitch, and Buentello plated Matt Kissamis for the winning run on an RBI single to right.

In the top of the ninth, Bryce Faust came in to pitch for TAMIU and shut the door after only facing four batters.
