LAREDO, Texas – Texas A&M International baseball (6-12, 6-12 LSC) fell 19-6 in the series finale to Lubbock Christian (6-9, 5-7 LSC) on Sunday.
The Chaps wasted no time getting on the board with three runs in the first inning. The first run came in on an RBI single up the middle with the other runs scoring on a sacrifice fly to right and an RBI single to right center.
The Dustdevils got a run back in the bottom half of the inning to cut the deficit to 3-1. Jerry Villareal drove in Phillip Sanchez with an RBI double down the right field line.
LCU pushed their lead out to 5-1 with two runs in the second. A sacrifice fly to center plated the first run with the other run scoring on a solo homer to right center.
The runs continued to come for the Chaps with a five-spot in the third to go up 10-1. A solo blast to right brought in the first run. Two came in on a two RBI double down the left field line, with another two crossing on an RBI single up the middle and a error by the second baseman.
TAMIU plated a run in the both the third and fourth innings to trim the lead to 10-3. A Villareal RBI single in the third scored Ariben Gutierrez. Daniel Quiroz launched a solo shot in the fourth.
LCU added another run to their advantage in the seventh to push out to 11-3 off a solo homer to center.
The Dustdevils brought in two more runs in the eighth to cut the deficit to 11-5. A Gutierrez sacrifice fly to left plated Quiroz. Brock Hargens came home on a wild pitch.Â
The Chaps offense exploded for eight runs in the ninth inning to go up 19-5. The first run scored on an RBI single through the left side of the infield. A three-run blast brought in more runs. The other four runs came in on two RBI singles and two errors.
TAMIU added one final run in the bottom half to make the final score 19-6. A 6-4-3 double play with the bases loaded brought in Luis Flores.
Tyler Hardwick (1-2) earned the win. Issac Chavarria (0-2) took the loss.
The Dustdevils will be back in action on Friday, March 19 as they travel to San Angelo, Texas to face off against No. 1 Angelo State in a three-game series.
